Nildottie (Moon River)

31/3/2025

A favourite for the year so far: the trip to Nildottie with 5 friends, 2 nights camping, perfect weather, clear skies, and a moon so bright you could have read by it. I would never have come here otherwise; it's on a somewhat neglected river section between Blanchetown and Murray Bridge and some of the shacks there remind me of what more well-known river sections would have been like in the 70s and 80s.

Nildottie means 'Smoke Signal Hill' in the language of the Nganguruku people. I can only imagine they must have sent the signals from the high point of the river cliff over to the people on the western side.

We went boating, caught carp, ate them, drank, attempted water skiing on a novelty floating couch, failed, and drank some more.

Good times for my outdoor / role-play gang.
